To Moms Who Shoot Daggers

Moms who shoot daggers, shame on you. Last week when I picked up Little BooBoo from preschool he was playing in the big yard, undoubtedly having the time of his young life.  The moment he spotted me walking toward him, the melodrama began. He didn’t want to go home and wanted the entire western hemisphere to know.  Nevermind the […]

My 8 Great Motherhood Lessons

[Image credit] The list of things motherhood has taught me is plentiful, ever-growing and always changing.  Below I offer the Cliff’s Notes version. My 8 Great Motherhood Lessons 1.  Dirt will not kill me.  Or my children.  This lesson pertains to dirt in my house, dirt my children eat and the 5 second rule.  We have survived […]

The Tao of Boys

[Image Credit] Boy Wonder has taught me everything I know about boy wisdom.  I’ve been collecting his “boy-isms” for years now.  This stuff is enlightening, hilarious and often, totally sexist.  Take notes, you’ll be glad you did.  Boys are stronger than girls so they can protect them from people who step on their feet. If […]

The Tooth Fairy, Stale Donuts and Fair Market Tooth Value

[Image Credit] Boy Wonder lost his 2 front teeth at the donut shop about a week ago.  It was dramatic.  The lady behind the counter couldn’t believe it.  She swore the donuts were fresh. Boy Wonder has a convenient memory; he “remembers” things he only wished happened.  Like how the Tooth Fairy leaves him $10 per […]

I Don’t Like My Son’s Teacher

[Image Credit] I DON’T LIKE MY SON’S TEACHER. Hot damn that felt good to say.  I like everybody and I still don’t like her. I don’t want to bore you with the completely rational reasons I feel this way.  You know I’m reasonable (just smile and nod), you know I hate confrontation, you know I’d […]

Uninhibited Art

It’s a long and totally hilarious story, go here to read all about it.

Trying Again: My Personal Story

Last week things got kinda heavy on this normally light-hearted blog when I shared my pregnancy journal of the baby I lost at 9 weeks.  Back when I was struggling with my loss I remember wishing more had been written about the anxiety and mixed emotions involved with deciding to try again.  I wish I could offer more to the Mommy Friend facing such […]

I’m a Yahoo Shine Parenting Guru!

If you follow Mommyfriend on Facebook (thank you, thank you very much), you already know that I have been selected as a Yahoo! Shine Parenting Guru based on this post about one Grinchy Big Daddy P and the making of a beloved and totally cheeseball family tradition. Yahoo! Shine is my absolute favorite online magazine (scout’s honor) because it is filled with […]

A Letter to Boy Wonder on his 8th Birthday

My Dearest Boy Wonder, Everything I have learned about motherhood was first taught by you.  How quickly 8 wonderful years have passed.  I remember being 8 really well and trying so hard in school and struggling.  I remember fighting with my friends, hating piano lessons and slowly discovering life wasn’t fair.  I remember all […]

Not So Fast

The more things change…   …the more they stay the same. This handmade baby quilt, now faded, tattered and torn, has seen Boy Wonder through nearly 8 years of sleepless nights, teething, fevers, bedtime stories, nightmares, bedwetting, chilly nights and of course, the sweetest of dreams. Here’s to growing up, but not too fast.
