First day of DisneySMMC! First day of DisneySMMC! Oh, boy! Oh, boy! Oh, boy!
We spent the morning getting the lay of the beautiful Port Orleans Riverside land. I could try to describe all the beauty on the bayou, but pictures are way more fun.
So pretty, right? I obviously took a bunch of selfies…
…and then stared directly into the sun at the request of my husband, our appointed photographer. SO. BRIGHT. SEEING. SPOTS.
After we ate Mickey waffles for breakfast (how do I not have a picture?), I popped into registration to pick up my DSMMC goodies.
This American Tourister tote is everything. It zips close — and that’s a big deal to me. It also has deep pockets and is really comfortable to use. I know you didn’t ask and you probably weren’t wondering, but now you know.
I then participated in a Hanes personal shopper experience where I learned all about the latest and greatest Hanes products. Even though we were already a Hanes family, it was great to get up close and personal with new personals.
After recording a quick vid…
…we headed off to Magic Kingdom. When I tell you it wasn’t my first choice of parks to visit that day, hear me out. Growing up in SoCal with Disneyland in my own backyard, part of me wondered how Magic Kingdom could possibly compare to the OG I know and love so well. I was so happy to discover Magic Kingdom indeed compared. And compared hard. It was every bit as magical!
And I wasn’t the only one who thought so.
Thanks to Memory Maker, Disney photographers captured this enchanting shot. Yes, Dad’s finally in the picture!
Once on Main Street USA, my teen became tour guide.
First stop: Tomorrowland.
We rode Space Mountain, which was totally faster than I remember. I’m having a hard time remembering what came next, but we ate some macaroni and cheese (I’ll always remember cheese) and rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
With my nose still running (and running, and running), I took a limited breather (so much snot) while these two hit up Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. It looks like they had a pretty good time.
My teen and I marveled at Cinderella’s castle, where I took a bunch of pictures that in no way did it justice.
Soon, the boys dashed off to Splash Mountain and looked as cool as they felt.
As a celebration attendee, I decided to head back to the hotel to get ready for the DisneySMMC welcome reception. That was until…
…The Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade made its way down Main Street USA. What a magical ending to my time at Magical Kingdom!
A wee bit later, my fellow attendees and I were transported to the Festival of the Lion King Theatre inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We learned all about Pandora – The World of Avatar set to open May 27th. We even got to see an incredible model of this incredible new world!
Feeling welcomed, excited, and mingled, I snapped a selfie with the amazing Lisa of Atypical Familia and adorable Ruby of GUBlife.
Virgos unite!
Soon, our families joined us for a delicious welcome dinner sponsored by GoGo squeeZ. My boys ate all the shrimp. I’m not even kidding.
With our bellies happy, we headed to Asia inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom for Rivers of Light for a visual masterpiece combining nature, folklore and wonder.
I was pretty amazed.

On our way out of the park we were lucky enough to witness Tree of Life Awakenings. Unfortunately, my pictures didn’t turn out so well. Womp, womp.
As we headed back to the hotel, my youngest proclaimed day one to be the “best day ever” before drifting off to dreamland.
I couldn’t agree more.
