“If you don’t tell me what you want to be for Halloween, you won’t get to go trick-or-treating.” I told Boy Wonder for the hundredth time.
“I’m too old for that.” he said. “People don’t like giving candy to older kids. Last year they kinda made me feel bad about it.”
“What? Who? How? Was it that house on the corner with the ugly blue trim, because I swear — ”
“Mom, it’s fine. My friends all said the same thing last year. It’s just not worth it.”
“Well, do you want to go?”
“Yeah, I mean, I like candy and dressing up, but I just don’t think I should. Last year I just felt embarrassed.”
Well now, isn’t that a shame. Last Halloween my 11-year-old son was made to feel bad about dressing up in a full gorilla costume for treats. Excuse me, unkind neighbors, but y’all went ape sh*t (pun intended) for his hot and scratchy costume. Some of you even took silly photos of him with your phones, but gifting him a fun-sized Snickers bar in exchange for his troubles proved too difficult? Boo on you. [read more…]
