My son is getting harder and harder to understand the older he gets. I would have never thought that possible, considering his toddler years were riddled with linguistic disasters I somehow became masterful at interpreting; “Shoofly donbadame” (shoo fly, don’t bother me) being my personal favorite.
When it comes to communicating with Boy Wonder, I’m often left shaking my head in silent protest of what verbally (or nonverbally) went down. With only a look or a singular word he somehow manages to convey utter annoyance, indifference, or resignation of the matter at hand. Perhaps what’s hardest part (at least for me) is not taking it all so personally.
